Maternity Center

Maternity Center - Continuum of Care

With its expertise in every area of pediatric subspecialty care, what could be more logical than for Texas Children's Hospital to extend that same quality of care into the period even before a child is born, by caring for the expectant mother? Whether the pregnancy is high-risk or low-risk, the new Maternity Center will offer expectant mothers and families the complete continuum of full-service, world-class care — all in a single location.

Family-centered maternity care

Texas Children's Hospital is the first to offer family-centered maternity care in the Texas Medical Center. This new kind of obstetrical care involves both the mother and the family in decision-making during labor, delivery, and postpartum care. The mother and her baby are cared for together by one nurse in a nurturing environment that promotes bonding from the first moments of life. Furthermore, the dynamic architectural design of the Maternity Center building will facilitate a team approach and integrated response to promote this new model of care.

Specialized services

The Maternity Center conjoins the hospital's pediatric mission with a full range of obstetrical services, including but not limited to evaluation and consultation, preterm birth evaluation, as well as perinatal diagnostic and treatment services and support, including childbirth and parenting classes, lactation support, and psychosocial support services. For infants in need of specialized care, the Maternity Center will offer both a Level II and Level III NICU, as well as access to expert pediatric subspecialists — all in one location.

"This is a new era in health care for mothers and their babies." — Cris Daskevich Senior Vice President — Texas Children's Hospital
